Double Deca Iron is happening for the second time in history in Mexico 11/14/2010 to 12/12/2010  28 day cut off.  48 mile swim/ 2,240 mile bike/ 524 mile run
Athletes from all over are coming, and there will be two females, Suraya Oliver from England and myself.  Love racing with Suraya, she is very strong and determined.  Its a good balance.   It’s going to be a difficult month, but to have strong and determined athletes around you makes it doable and enjoyable!

There will be four Americans tackling the double deca – Chet Blanton is one of the originally four finishers and he is coming back for round two.  Peter Lefferts, John Price, and myself will be representing the USA.  Odds are hard for a finish, but going to go give it my best shot!

Feel free to follow along at: www.multisport.com.mx for updates once a day, and on www.eileensteil.com  every day, every other day will be shooting a short 2 minute video to update during the race.  As the race gets in deeper, updates will become more sparce.  There is a guestbook on the eileensteil website and both the team and I will receive the messages.

Issuing a 28 day challenge to those that want to change something (most call it New Years Resolutions), using the dates of the race as a good timeline.  It takes 3 weeks to make a change, would love to have others working hard while we’re busting it to make an imaginary finish line.

Thank you to all that back the Steil Team both financially and emotionally!

Neurosports Physical Therapy/Neurotour will be crewing, maintaining and looking after the body for the final two weeks.  All during the training, they have been taking care of me with Pilates and physical therapy care!  They have truly helped to get me to a startline!

Stuffitts (cedar filled sole inserts) have been with me for a few seasons, and will continue to keep my shoes fresh.  The inserts dry out the sweat and help the shoes to smell clean!  Any type of shoe these inserts are perfect for.  Ski boots, running shoes, dress shoes, ect Stuffitts will help to keep them dry and fresh, which will help to preserve your shoes and have them last longer.

Spenco Medical is assisting with blister protection products.  They were there that first deca and helped to get the feet through the 262 mile run, there are here again for the 524 mile run.  Thrilled they are helping for this event as my feet are one of my biggest concerns.

Dynamo Multisport is an amazing triathlon team in Atlanta that I am proud to sponsor with my massage practice, and in return they threw a party on my behalf and helped to raise funds that will help to pay the application fee…THANK YOU!!!  If you are in Atlanta and need a very powerful team that will make you stronger, Matt Rose and his triathlon team at Dynamo, they are a very strong team.  Matt and Haillie (sorry if I spelled that wrong) just got back from Hawaii (Kona world championship 2010) where Haillie came out first Amateur Female in the swim, and Matt was on her toes, he got up the steps quicker, and placed in top 20 amateur men (going off memory sorry if it was faster).  The special bonds that exist in this group is spectacular.

There are several other companies that are coming on board, and will update on the website to reflect this.  Please support those that support Team Steil as this is just a hobby, and without the backing there would not be a start line!

About 5 weeks out from the deca, and I ran into Mike Huebner – owner of www.stuffitts.com .  Up until this week his ‘office’ was literally right down the hall from my ‘office’ of one of my businesses.  I was in the process of moving 7000 pieces of clothing and had on zero make-up.  He apparently didn’t seem to care, nor did I – it was moving day, but I had promised him some kind of fun photo with his product, since I use his product.  This close to the venue, whatever doesn’t get done right then and there, won’t get done til January next year, so there you have it.  I love his product.

How his product works, he says to use it with your new shoes so that they won’ t smell.  Well, I don’t like socks, hardly ever – maybe on bike rides longer than 200 miles and on cold rides.  Either way, my feet sweat – yours does too, although my stratospherically high maintenance closest girlfriend, well, she just glistens since she’s from Auburn :-)    All you do is place your stuffitts into your shoes after use.

How I use them – my cycling shoes for spin class I was using Fabreeze, then I was given stuffitts to try, and viola, no more fabreeze (saving that now for my 7000 pieces of clothing – anyone want to buy a high end second hand store?!  I’d even throw in the stuffed animals and high end boots and purses.).  Back to Mike:  I am starting to use a few of the pairs with my high heels – something I don’t think Mike has thought of since he doesn’t own high heels.  Even my sandles get wet from the beach or pool, and the stuffitts soak up the moisture (they are filled with a special foam in the toes and then cedar throughout).

The positives I see – I drop between $200-600 for a pair of higher end shoes and to keep them fresh I pop in a $10 foot with cedar after each use, shoes are always dry and the beautiful leather that was hand sewn in Italy is preserved.  My athletic shoes and my cycling shoes, even though those are less expensive and not meant to last as long, it is still wonderful that they don’t smell.  Now Mike will tell you that you need to use these when your shoes are new and that they won’t get older smells out.  One of my favorite Clarks that were just horrific in scent from the ocean getting stale in the shoe, I swear they don’t smell anymore after I left them in my car with the stuffitts in – Mike won’t make that claim, but I will :-)

I know currently, Mike is offering to gift wrap the stuffitts for the Holidays if need, but check out his website, or ask him yourself.  Even if your friend/spouse/ect isn’t an athlete they are great to use for your shoes you want to preserve.

I promise Mike we’ll take aside an afternoon and do a better shot with all my shoes I used getting geared for this race.
